Today we did some stuff on Social Networking, particulary Facebook, but I also joined Bebo.

I joined the i heart the Science Library club on FB as well as the UWA Web 2.0 community. It’s a good way to keep it touch with people and also join groups of lilke minded individuals. I’m more into Twitter than Facebook. Bebo is okay, a bit clunky and I dont really like it that much.

Slide Casting

This wasn’t too hard. I have succesfully uploaded this slide presentation.

I uploaded my first youtube video today. After looking at a few, I found this one, which was right size and length.

It’s called ‘Are You Popular?’ and is an example of post-World War II social guidance films. It tell you, with examples of “good” and “bad” girls, proper and improper dating etiquette, courtesy to parents, and an analysis of what makes some people popular and others not. Rather funny, but also rather frightening considering the lelevel of conformity it advocates.

Catch-up Post

Hallo Everybody,

This is my catch-up post.

Firstly, I want to talk about Google Reader. It’s really become part of my morning now. I get to work and then I look at my feeds. I’ve subscribed to the the news, for obvious reasons and also my favourite web comic, XKCD. I also have feeds for many of the 23 Things participants blogs and also the 23 Things blog, to see what tasks we are doing for the current week. It’s been really invaluable to me. Everyone needs RSS!

The other ‘thing’ I want to blog about is ‘Library Thing’ Here is my account: Here is my account: Basically it allows you to catalogue your home library online so people can see what you like and what you are reading. The program then suggests other books you may like, based on your current book collections. This was pretty fun, but I must admit, I haven’t had time to imput all the books I have at home.

This week we’ve been learning about memes. This has been a bit of nostalgia for me and has involved Bookbuster, Morgandorffer and I sharing our favourite internet memes. All good fun with lots of laffs!

Sports Day is this Friday. I’m in the soccer, among other things. Should be fun, unless someone loses an eye. I hope that doesn’t happen! :P

I’ll end with my current favourite meme:
More Kanye :P

Wow! Podcasts!

I’m loving this week’s task. I’ve downloaded some fantastic lectures and talks.

I’m currently listening to this fascinating talk by a guy from the Royal Shakespeare Production and the about how the 16th century accent (original pronunciation) would have made Romeo and Juliet at least ten minutes shorter. It’s so interesting! The dialect is almost yorkshire with a mix of Scottish. I’ve heard this before and read things about it. I love hearing Shakespeare spoken in this way. It does give it a far more fast pace and a more earthy feel.

I’ve also got some lectures from Oxford University. I love this! I can learn from home. If only the Post Grad library course was so interesting! :P

Get ready to see a more enlightened and intelligent Helen walking around from now on. :D

Well, I was already a Twitter addict, but now many of the 23 things participants are too! Bookbuster has also created a live feed so we can see what everyone is tweeting. It’s really cool.

Also, everyone is now on Gtalk. The Google IM client. This has made work gossip circulate so much faster. It’s so convenient! I just need to figure out how to convince people to go and get me coffee using it.

Bookbuster is now my best friend in the world, having given me an invite to Google Wave. It’s just so much fun. If you want proof, watch this short video. I promise you you’ll be interested:

It’s soo cool!

Oh, the UWA sports day, or as I’m now calling it iSportsDay2.0, is fast approaching. I did training for the soccer yesterday. I kinda suck, but that’s okay. It’s only for fun, right? Right? :P

I may be going to the One Movement music festival on the weekend, depending if Kael and Lou give me their tickets. They can’t go, but are waiting on getting some free tickets promised to them. Otherwise, I’ll just be going to the beach for a swim and to the Retro Market on Sunday.

Mmm Delicious!

FYI, I do have a delicious account that I’ve been using a bit to keep track of webpages I find interesting.

Here I am! Someone rudely stole my usual nom de plume ‘HelenKitty’, which I thought was highly rude.
